Lettering and calligraphy
Did you know that lettering comes from calligraphy and calligraphy comes from the Greek word of Kallos grafia, which means "gorgeous writing"?
Lettering is the art of writing beautifully. It all started in the 19th century after the typing machine invention.
Paradoxically, many people still nowadays appreciate the tactile feeling of writing manually.
In the beginning it may look inconvenient or messy, your fingers may get dirty and the tools and materials could look just difficult to handle. This manual and visual art requires practice and muscle memory. A good artist needs to spend several hours repeating over and over the same letter, words and drawings, learning new styles and training his/her hand.
